Tèt Ansanm Leadership Group for Girls
Since the summer of 2022, TurningWheel Collective has been working with the young women of the Tèt Ansanm Leadership Group for Girls at Flanbwayan Haitian Literacy Project. What started as sessions to work on language for newcomers teens, slowly became a play space where multiple present-day concerns for young people are explored.
Together a space has been developed that welcomes ideas, cultivates critical analysis skills, and develops performance pieces from 3 minutes to 40 minutes, examining the intersection of social issues and Haitian and Haitian-American culture.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, the young people are investigating all the ways the climate crisis impacts us socially, globally, and personally. The research gathered will culminate in a performance piece presented in East Flatbush, Brooklyn June 2025.
Memory, Emotion, Celebration
On June 15th, 2024, the youth of the Tèt Ansanm Leadership Group for Girls presented their first public performance: Memory, Emotion, Celebration, collecting the stories of immigration and transition into life in a new country.
